Stanislaus County’s favorite caterer also operates a ‘delicious’ restaurant
After receiving a nomination for best Stanislaus County catering company, Nami-No Restaurant & Catering took the lead by a long shot during the voting period.
The reader who nominated Nami-No said the catering company is friendly, accommodating and delicious.
“They delivered with quality plastic plates, individually wrapped napkins and were on time,” the person wrote.
Nami-No achieved first place in the fifth contest of the “best in Stanislaus” series with 74 of 104 votes. Copper Spur Bar-B-Que came in second with 15 votes.
Nami-No started as a catering company six years before it became a restaurant. When I visited Sunday, Delmon Khoushabeh told me that customers liked the food so much, they would ask if they could purchase it outside of events.
So in late 2017, Edward Khoushabeh, Delmon’s father, opened the restaurant on Geer Road in the Save Mart shopping center.
What does Nami-No Restaurant & Catering serve?
Nami-No is a Middle Eastern eatery that specializes in kabobs. Reservations are required to eat at the restaurant and to-go orders are accepted.
Store-bought hummus is fine, but the house-made hummus at Nami-No is an entirely different experience. Its $10 for a shareable appetizer bowl.
Other appetizers include cucumber and yogurt dip and grape leaf or cabbage dolmeh.
There are 16 types of kabob styles to choose from, and meat options are beef, lamb or chicken. Kabob plates served with basmati rice and grilled tomatoes and peppers range from $22 to $38.
Specialty stews, like ghormezabzi, and zeresh polo (basmati rice with chicken and berries) are also on the menu.
You cannot leave Nami-No without ordering at least one piece of baklava. The restaurant’s version of this dessert made a fan out of me, and I’ve never loved baklava before.
Other dessert options are zoolbia and bamieh (a deep-fried sweet pastry and a Persian-style doughnut), rose water ice cream and faloodeh (Persian-style sorbet made with thin vermicelli noodles, frozen corn starch, rose water and lime juice).
Anything on the restaurant menu can be ordered for catering, but the catering menu has even more options, Delmon Khoushabeh said. Nami-No has served small events requiring only family platters, as well as 600- to 800-person weddings.
