What might replace Kmart in Oakdale? City receives application for site plans
A formal site plan review application for a proposed new business to be constructed at the former Kmart site in Oakdale has been submitted, according to the city of Oakdale.
Walmart Neighborhood Market officials submitted the application for the site at 175 S. Maag Ave., the city said in a Friday morning Facebook post.
The project includes the complete demolition of the existing Kmart building and the construction of a new, approximately 45,000-square-foot Walmart Neighborhood Market, according to the city.
Key features would include a new building design with updated architectural features, a drive-thru pharmacy, 335 parking spaces — including EV charging stations — and enhanced landscaping and site layout improvements.
“Please note that this will be a new standalone structure, not a renovation of the old facility,” the Facebook post reads.
The application is under review by Oakdale staff. The proposal is expected to go before the city Planning Commission for consideration in late summer or early fall.
The first Walmart Neighborhood Market — a smaller, grocery-focused store — opened in 1998, according to the Walmart corporate website.
