Stanislaus County Red Robin locations may be in danger as company closes 70 restaurants

Red Robin, a popular burger chain, announced it may close around 70 underperforming restaurants after reporting a net loss of $77.5 million in 2024.

The chain’s total revenues decreased $54.5 million from 2023 to 2024, according to a company earnings release.

The rest of the more than 300 company-owned restaurants continue to perform “very well,” said G.J. Hart, Red Robin’s president and CEO.

The company expects to close the restaurants over a five-year time period as their leases expire, Hart said in an earnings call. Around 10 to 15 of the 70 are expected to close in 2025.

“We believe the expected closure of a majority of these restaurants will allow the strength of our remaining portfolio to become clear over time and free cash that we expect to reinvest in the business and use to repay debt,” he said.

There are two Red Robin restaurants in Stanislaus County:

  • 2367 Claribel Road, Riverbank

  • 3105 W. Monte Vista Ave., Turlock

The company has not announced which locations would closing.

Red Robin plans to improve traffic trends in 2025 by expanding on its loyalty program, adding menu items — including hot honey sandwiches, wings, pizza, more salad options and additional burger flavors — and through promotions and marketing.
