It’s been crickets since word got around that a new In-N-Out was coming to The Marketplace shopping center in Modesto, which begs the question: is it still happening?

The short answer is, well, maybe.

The company confirmed to The Modesto Bee in April that a restaurant was going to be built at 3401 Oakdale Road near Sylvan Avenue, but no moves have been made to start construction.

“At this stage, we are in the development application process, so it’s still too early to say when we will be able to open a restaurant there,” In-N-Out Vice President of Store Development Mike Abbate told The Bee on Friday.

When construction does begin on a new location, he said it usually takes eight to nine months to build the restaurant and open for business.

“We do hope to open a new restaurant in Modesto sometime in the future,” Abbate said. “We do know that Modesto is a wonderful community and we are excited about the prospect of opening a third location there.”

Modesto’s other two In-N-Out locations are at Sisk Road near Plaza Parkway and around three miles north of there at Sisk and Pelandale Avenue.
