Another new hotel is headed for Turlock. What’s planned for extended stay destination
Turlock’s hospitality just keeps growing.
A new hotel is under development in the city, bringing with it close to 100 new rooms just off Highway 99. The new TownePlace Suites by Marriott would be a four-story extended stay hotel west of downtown Turlock on North Tully Road.
Sacramento-based BM5 Hospitality LLC is behind the development, which would sit directly north of the existing Comfort Suites on Tully Road. The hotel would be constructed on a vacant 2-acre dirt lot that is currently being used largely for semi-trailer parking.
Representatives from BM5 Hospitality LLC did not return a request for comment on the project before the publication deadline.
The 53,710-square-foot structure would be built from the ground up on the site and once completed have 91 extended stay suites that include bedroom, bathroom, workspace, dining room and kitchen areas. The hotel also would have an outdoor pool and fitness area, and create 88 on-site parking spaces.
The plans were submitted June 6 to the City of Turlock Planning Division. A public hearing on the project is set for Sept. 1.
When finished, the completed hotel would have a cream, brown and green color scheme with a modular design.
Planning documents show the hotel would hire a staff of about 30, and be open 24 hours a day. It’s expected the site could have around 200 visitors a day.
If approved, work is tentatively slated to begin in January 2023. Construction is expected to take a little over a year, with an anticipated February 2024 completion date, according to planning documents.
The closest open TownePlace Suite is in Merced. The new hotel would be the second in three years to open in Turlock. In spring 2021 the city saw the opening of a Home2 Suites by Hilton on Lander Avenue, next to the existing Hampton Inn, on the city’s southern edge. Like the planned TownePlace Suites, the Home2 Suites is an extended stay brand with all-suite rooms.
Another hotel, a La Quinta Inn & Suites, has been under development since late 2017 on the city’s northern edge. The approved plans for the North Golden State Boulevard site, along Highway 99, received a one-year extension in 2019, but work has yet to start on the development.
The new Marriott hotel also will be visible from Highway 99, which would form the western border to the property. Directly to its east is a residential neighborhood off Henry Way.
