Sconza Chocolates employees to demand ‘respect and dignity’ at Oakdale rally
Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers & Grain Millers Local 125 is organizing a Saturday rally for Sconza Chocolates employees as they “continue their fight for a fair contract,” according to a news release.
According to BCTGM Local 125, Sconza Chocolates wants to modify contract language to avoid paying overtime to employees who work on the weekend and is also proposing a 10% increase in medical insurance premiums.
In addition, Sconza proposed that employees waive their rights under the Private Attorney General Act, the union says. This act allows employees to sue their employer if the employer violates labor laws.
“Sconza Chocolates is proposing changes that would make it harder for workers and their families to get ahead during these difficult times,” the union said in a statement. “These workers are standing together for respect and dignity.”
The rally will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at 455 S. Yosemite Ave. The union is also asking the community to sign its petition to “help demonstrate broad community support for Sconza Chocolates workers.”
