Bed found in storage room of Stanislaus County liquor store during inspection

A bed was found in the storage room of a Turlock liquor store during early November health inspections.

The majority of the 2,400 permitted food service establishments in the county receive two unannounced routine food safety inspections per year, according to the Department of Environmental Resources. The website says inspection reports are scanned weekly.

Food trucks that operate under a Stanislaus County Health Department permit also are inspected by the county, though those are scheduled and done at the department’s office.

Contamination risk common violation

Violations were found during routine inspections of the following Stanislaus County food facilities during the week of Nov. 3-9. Only the dates of violations are listed.

The details of the reports do not indicate whether a restaurant passed or failed inspection. Corrective actions may have been made by the business by the time of publication.

Donatello’s, 1532 Lakewood Drive, Suite 2, in Modesto, had four violations on Nov. 4 — two of them major. The ambient temperature of one refrigerator was 52 degrees (must be 41 degrees) and another was 54 degrees. A valid health permit and the food safety certification were lacking.

We Donuts, 2207 Scenic Drive in Modesto, had one major violation on Nov. 4. An employee with gloves on used the cash register, then resumed to work without washing hands.

Beard Park Snack Bar, 410 A St. in Waterford, had five violations on Nov. 5. Counters, shelving and plastic five-gallon containers had dust and grime buildup. Ceiling-mounted lighting lacked shatterproof covers. Sanitizer test strips, a food safety certificate and a valid health permit were lacking.

Airport Market, 1609 Monterey Ave. in Modesto, had four violations on Nov. 5. Flies were observed inside the facility. Containers of milk were on the floor of the walk-in cooler. There were dented cans on the sales floor. A ceiling tile in the walk-in cooler was broken, with exposed wood.

Pizza Factory, 4326 Main St. in Denair, had four violations on Nov. 6 — one of them major. The men’s bathroom lacked hand soap . Paint cans were stored above packaged fruit and utensils in the storage area. A home-style chest freezer was being used. The permit to operate was not posted for public viewing.

Ranch Burger, 60 C St. in Turlock, had four violations on Nov. 6 — two of them major. In two freezers and one refrigerator, raw chicken and patties were stored above and next to vegetables, ice cream and sauces. Eggs were stored at an internal temperature of 47 degrees. The food safety certificate and several food handlers cards were expired.

Denair Market, 4330 Main St. in Denair, had five violations on Nov. 6 — one of them major. Raw beef and chicken were stored on top of ice cream pints and cooked, frozen shrimp in the meat department freezer. The meat department had a significant presence of flies. Baby food had an expiration date of Oct. 30, 2025. Cardboard placed along shelving in the walk-in refrigerator was soiled in a green/black accumulation. Vent covers in the walk-in refrigerator had dust accumulation.

Cost Less Foods, 255 W. Main St. in Turlock, had seven violations on Nov. 7 — three of them major. A refrigerator and a freezer in the meat department held raw chicken and raw beef over cooked shrimp. A sink in the meat department and a sink in the bakery were leaking onto the floor. There was no sanitizer in the bucket in the bakery.

The ceiling in the back of the facility where dry goods are stored had an opening several feet long. A walk-in refrigerator had a small pool of liquid on the floor, and the walls were soiled in a white and black substance. Condenser fan vent covers had dust accumulation. Sanitizer test strips were not available to test the sink wall-mounted sanitizer dispenser unit in the meat and bakery departments.

7 Star Liquor, 952 Lander Ave. in Turlock, had two violations Nov. 6. A bed was being used and stored inside the alcohol storage room. The permit to operate was not posted for public viewing.
