Wood pieces prompt recall of 3.8 million pounds of breaded Foster Farms products
Foster Farms recalled 3.84 million pounds of breaded chicken and turkey products due to wood pieces in the batter.
Six injuries were reported in Monday’s announcement from the federal Food Safety and Inspection Service. The recall involves chicken corn dogs and ground turkey on a stick.
The Livingston-based company voluntarily recalled the frozen items, produced from July 30, 2024, through Aug. 4 of this year.
“This precautionary measure is being taken to maintain the highest standards of product quality and consumer safety,” Foster Farms said on its website.
The federal notice urged buyers to throw away the products or return them to the place of purchase. Details on the 16 specific products and package sizes are on the FSIS website. Most of the products are honey batter corn dogs but there also are whole-grain pancake and turkey wraps on sticks and other corn dogs.
The notice did not detail the consumers’ injuries or locations. It did advise other people how to check their own purchases: “The products subject to recall bear establishment number ‘P-6137B’ either inside the USDA mark of inspection or printed on the packaging. These items were shipped to retail and institutional locations nationwide, including Department of Defense and USDA Commodity Foods donations.
“While the products were distributed to schools, it resulted from commercial sales and not part of food provided by the USDA for the National School Lunch Program.”
Foster Farms processes turkey in Turlock and chicken in Livingston, Fresno, Porterville and a few other states.
