Gallo rates high for worker morale

E.&J. Gallo Winery ranked high for “company culture” in an employee survey conducted by a national recruitment website.

The Modesto-based business was among eight cited by Glassdoor for fostering a workplace appreciated by the workers. It got 4.4 out of a possible 5 points in the survey.

Employees cited Gallo’s family ownership, opportunities for career growth and other advantages. A news release from the company noted that it also offers telecommuting, meeting-free Fridays, food trucks, on-site primary care for employees and their families, and more.

“We appreciate the honest feedback our employees provide at all levels to make Gallo a better place to work every day,” said Michelle Lewis, vice president of global human resources.

Gallo, the world’s largest wine company, employs about 3,500 people in Modesto and about 2,500 in other parts of the state, nation and world. Last month, it opened a new office building at the headquarters that is designed for worker interaction.

Glassdoor also recognized the SpaceX aerospace company, social media giant Pinterest, the New Balance shoe company, the Trader Joe’s grocery chain, EverFi educational services, Madwire digital marketing and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
