Stanislaus Grown has published its third annual directory to the county’s fruit, nuts, cheese and plenty more.

The “Local Food & Farm Guide” spreads across 32 pages in print and also comes in an online version at www.stanislausgrown.org. Fans will find farmers markets, produce stands, restaurants and other places that offer the goods.

The print guide is being distributed to many of these places, said Trina Walley, program coordinator at the East Stanislaus Resource Conservation District. It also will give them out Thursday at the Modesto Certified Farmers Market, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 16th and I streets.

The district and several partners launched Stanislaus Grown in 2014 to promote food from one of the nation’s most productive and diverse farm counties.

Another workshop on marketing “cottage foods” from home kitchens will take place Thursday near Modesto.

The University of California Cooperative Extension will repeat a Feb. 23 program that explained the rules for making and selling jam, baked goods, vinegar, honey and other items. A 2012 state law laid out standards on food safety, labeling, volume limits, training and more.

The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Harvest Hall at the Stanislaus County Agricultural Center, 3800 Cornucopia Way, off Crows Landing Road. The $35 fee includes light morning refreshments and lunch.

Finally, the next Tournament of Roses Parade is to feature a second straight appearance by the California Milk Advisory Board, based in Modesto and South San Francisco.

The industry group entered a float in this year’s New Year’s Day event in Pasadena, featuring big replicas of a banana split, pizza and other dairy-based treats. It was the first time the board had taken part in the 127 years of the parade, best known for the flowers that blanket each float.

The board has not disclosed details of its 2017 entry, which will be seen by a national TV audience.
