Large blaze erupts at chicken ranch south of Ceres

Firefighters responded Thursday afternoon to a large fire at a chicken ranch south of Ceres.

Multiple agencies were battling the blaze in the area of East Barnhart and Bystrum roads, near the Bronco Wine Co. complex. The site includes housing for chickens and several feed bins.

The cause is not yet known, said a Facebook post by the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit. The number of birds believed to be inside also is unknown.

Barnhart and Crows Landing Road were closed near the fire, the California Highway Patrol said.
