Ceres officer injured in Oakdale crash, thousands lose power
A Ceres police K-9 officer suffered minor injuries and thousands of Oakdale residents lost power when the officer crashed his patrol car into a guy wire on a power pole early Thursday.
The crash occurred on Sierra Road near Knox Road in Oakdale about 5:30 a.m., according to Ceres police Lt. Chris Perry. Ceres Officer Coey Henson was on his way to work in his patrol car when he swerved to avoid a stray dog and hit the guy wire supporting a large power pole on Sierra.
Perry said K-9 officers take home their patrol cars because they “often respond to calls from their home.”
The patrol car rolled onto its top, and the impact knocked out power to 2,025 nearby residents, according to Pacific Gas & Electric spokeswoman Brandi Merlo. Power was restored to most of them by 7 a.m. and was fully restored by 8:30.
Henson was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and his K-9 partner, Dex, escaped with a few scratches, Perry said.
The crash is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
