YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the California State Assembly passed a supplemental school aid measure, AB52, in the closing hours of the 1966 legislative session. AB52 would give extra funding to “low wealth” school districts, and 19 such district existed in Stanislaus County. But to qualify for the extra money, the school districts had to meet certain local tax requirements, such as levying an additional local tax which would equal a tax which would raise a sum of $15 per child in their districts. The Modesto High School and Elementary districts qualified for the extra funding.
