Info: Speaker is Christopher Neville, a radiation oncologist with more than 20 years of clinical experience with Memorial Medical Center. He will offer an update on the state of the art in radiotherapy, and some of the science driving changes in cancer treatment and recovery. Everyone is welcome. YESTERYEARS
40 YEARS AGO: The Modesto Board of Education voted 3-2 to establish smoking areas on high school campuses on a trial basis. The board also directed staff to immediately create a fall term policy with tough penalties for smoking outside the designated areas. In other business, the school board also approved a tentative budget of $27.4 million, with $14.5 million going to elementary schools, up $703,374; and $12.8 million to the high schools, up $803,100.
