Stanislaus County grand jury to be seated

The 2016-17 Stanislaus County civil grand jury is scheduled to be seated later this month.

According to a news release from Stanislaus Superior Court, Judge Marie Silveira will preside over the selection at 8:30 a.m. June 27 in Dept. 1.

Grand jury members – 19 plus four alternates – serve for one fiscal year, from July 1 to June 30.

Recruiting efforts, which began in March, included mailing out more than 400 letters to county residents, county/city leaders and service organizations, and reaching out through local newspapers, the court said.

Judges and court administrators interviewed all qualified applicants and selected 30 names for the random draw June 27. They are:

  • Modesto residents Kenneth Adair, Jill Ayres, Brian Bigelow, Thomas Cardoza, Beverly Finley, Linda Fredericks, Merschell Johnson, Angela Lagos, Ann Marie Mangini, James McKay, Diane Mecca, Edward Meyer, Carol Miller, Laurie Overly, Robert Philbrook, Richard Rodman, Kim Unruh and Timothy Warnock
  • Oakdale residents Melvin Bradley, Jarrold Fouts, Michael Hancock and Glenn White
  • Patterson resident Alejandra Ceja
  • Crows Landing resident Tish Foley
  • Turlock resident Don Hamaguchi
  • Waterford resident Joseph Kollmeyer
  • Newman residents Michael Mendoza and Joanne Thompson
  • Denair resident Dalbir Plaha
  • Salida resident Frank Thrall Jr.

After the selection and swearing-in ceremony, the incoming grand jury panel will attend an orientation beginning at 9 a.m. Grand jurors also are required to attend a two-day training session presented by the California Grand Jury Association on July 13-14.
