YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Stanislaus County Community Action Commission named Dr. Frank C. Pearce the group’s new chairman. Pearce was then the director of research at Modesto Junior College and succeeded Dr. Leslie G. Billingsley, who resigned due to a job transfer that it made necessary for him to leave the Modesto area. Pearce was the group’s parliamentarian before being selected to serve the rest of Billingsley’s one-year term, which had started in February.
