Ninety-four-degree heat in the 5 p.m. hour and a 6 p.m. tip-off for Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the Warriors vs. the Cavaliers, combined to give the evening market on 10th Street a quiet start Thursday. Early into the market, which runs from 5 to 9 p.m., about 30 vendors were set up and pedestrian traffic was light.

The bulk of the booths were vendors of produce and other foods including jerky, kettle corn, teas, cheese, candy brittle, breads and pastries. About a half-dozen craft booths were operating, and about the same number of hot-food booths.

Some of the businesses lining the market between I and K streets were participating as expected, including Rodin Ranch Farmers Market at 10th and J streets. Fuzio was offering dinner specials, and Greens on Tenth had a market booth.

Chef demonstrations by the Modesto Certified Farmers Market were about to get underway in the opening hour, as was musical entertainment. The new market, a joint effort by the Downtown Modesto Partnership and the Modesto Certified Farmers Market, will run through Nov. 17.
