YESTERYEARS
75 YEARS AGO: An ordinance was created to prohibit the sale or giving away of cream pies, cream puffs, chocolate eclairs or any pastry mixture containing custard or cream filling. City of Modesto Health Officer E.F. Reamer said the prohibition would have been in effect from June 1 to Oct. 1. This was because during the summer months, a seller or consumer might accidentally leave the pastries out in the heat where they would spoil but still be consumed and cause illness.
