What: AARP Safe Driver refresher course

Where: Modesto Senior Center, 200 Bodem St.
Info: This course will refresh an automobile insurance discount certificate for another three years. It is aimed at seniors who have taken the basic course. Fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for others. Call 209-341-2974 for a reservation.

What: Eat Better, Move Better Program
When: Weekly starting Monday, 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.
Where: McConnell Adult Ed. Center, 1348 Patchett Drive
Info: In partnership with the Healthy Aging Association, Area Agency on Aging and Howard Training Center present the Eat Better, Move Better Program. Any seniors 60 years or older are welcome to attend the Eat Better, Move Better Program. The Eat Better, Move Better Program is a free, short interactive nutrition and physical activity session offered once a week for 4 weeks. Participants will earn rewards, win weekly prizes, and qualify for a grand prize at the end of 4 weeks. To register, call 209-523-2800.

YESTERYEARS
40 YEARS AGO: It was announced that Stanislaus County would begin to initiate the move to central communications, the first step in implementing the new 911 emergency number. The Board of Supervisors approved the concept and the search for a consultant to guide the complex project. Eventually, by 1982, all old emergency numbers would be discarded.
