Modesto

What: LUNCH AND LEARN PROGRAM

When: Thursday, noon

Where: Jacob’s Restaurant, 2501 McHenry Ave.

Info: The League of Women Voters Lunch and Learn program features Jennifer Hidalgo, ACE Foward Initiative, who will speak on the topic of the proposed Altamont Corridor Express train expansion. Turlock

What: WRESTLING WORKSHOP

When: Friday, 3:30 to 8 p.m.

Where: Turlock High School, 1600 E. Canal Drive

Info: Olympic wrestler and sports analyst Ken Chertow will be conducting two wrestling sessions: Session 1, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., wrestling room; and Session 2, 6 to 8 p.m., main gym. Cost is $25 for one session, $40 for both. Parents and coaches that attend with their athletes are encouraged to come free of charge and support their experience by video recording. Where: Turlock branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 550 Minaret Ave.

What: TEEN FRIENDSHIP BRACELET CRAFT

When: Tuesday, 6 p.m.

Where: Newman branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 1305 Kern St.

Info: Teens are invited to participate and learn how to make friendship bracelets. The library will provide an assortment of colorful embroidery thread that crafters may use to create a number of designs, including hearts and chevron patterns. Sonora

What: COMMUNITY CHORUS SINGERS

When: Monday, 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Where: St. James Epsicopal Church, 42 Snell St.

Info: The Columbia College Community Chorus is seeking additional singers. Some experience with choral singing is desired. Chorus rehearsals are held Monday evenings. For more information, call chorus manager Carl Rudolph at (209) 586-9905.

YESTERYEARS

75 YEARS AGO: Professor Frank Mancini, director of band and orchestra at Modesto Junior College, was given a podium and music stand by members of the Kappelmeisters Club. The club was made up of male music majors and its president was Ed Azhderian.
