Keyes man arrested in suspected Turlock road rage shooting death

A Keyes man has been arrested after a fatal shooting in Turlock on Saturday morning that police are attributing to road rage.

At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Turlock police responded to a report of gunshots in the 4500 block of North Golden State Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found the victim, 34-year-old Keyes resident Pablo Vargas Jr., lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Vargas was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to Turlock Officer Steve Rodrigues.

The shooting was reported as an apparent road rage incident and a witness gave officers a description of a vehicle involved in the incident, Rodrigues said. Officers checked the surrounding area and located a vehicle matching the description near Fulkerth Road and North Golden State Boulevard. Three people and a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting were found inside. One of the vehicle’s occupants, 20-year-old Paris Roberts Jr. of Keyes, has been arrested and charged with homicide by Turlock police in the shooting.
