Vehicle smashes into Modesto business
Three people escaped serious injuries Friday morning after their vehicles collided in downtown Modesto, sending a sport-utility vehicle into an unoccupied business.
The accident occurred at Sixth and G streets about 5:45 a.m.
According to Modesto police Officer Ryan Olson, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV was traveling east on G when it apparently ran a red light and struck a Honda sedan heading north on Sixth.
The SUV continued north and veered into the building on the northeast corner of the intersection that houses a couple of businesses, including La Mejor, a Spanish-language magazine. Nobody was in the business at the time, according to authorities. About a quarter of the vehicle broke through the wall on the west side of the business.
The drivers of both vehicles were taken to nearby hospitals with minor injuries, Olson said. A passenger in the SUV complained of pain but was not in need of immediate medical attention.
