Cycling Expo comes to downtown
The city held its Modesto Cycling Expo on Wednesday in downtown to tie in with the Amgen Tour of California, whose cyclists would be spending the night in Modesto before resuming the race Thursday in Lodi. Unlike 2008-11, the cyclists did not compete in here. The expo featured food trucks, a raffle, cycling demonstrations and mechanics working on tour bicycles. The expo was from 3 to 7 p.m. and had drawn a small crowd as of 5 p.m. on a hot afternoon. Modesto expects to spend about $67,509 to provide meals and lodging for roughly 350 cyclists and their team members and associated expenses. Last week, the city reported raising $28,000 toward recouping its costs, with $22,000 of that coming from the tour.
