Man badly hurt when run over by tractor

Family members who grew worried when a man didn’t return on time from doing work on his tractor Wednesday evening north of Modesto found him seriously injured in his field.

The Salida Fire Protection District responded to the 9:15 p.m. dispatch, which initially was for a man having difficulty breathing, said Capt. John Alberti. “As we were on our way, we learned the incident was that he’d been run over by his tractor.”

The injury occurred possibly a couple of hours earlier. Alberti said responders weren’t able to get a clear understanding of what happened – whether the tractor tipped, whether the man had gotten off or fallen off. “He just said he was run over.”

The man, in his late 60s or early 70s, suffered major injuries, including to his chest, and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital’s trauma center.
