Kids’ Day volunteers hit Modesto streets to help Salvation Army
Volunteers manned the street corners of Modesto and surrounding areas Tuesday for the annual Kids’ Day fundraiser for the Salvation Army. At Roseburg and McHenry avenues in Modesto, costumed mascots sold the special newspapers for $1 donations. Proceeds will go to the group’s Red Shield Center.
Preliminary figures indicate this year’s fundraiser brought in a little more than $95,000, Salvation Army Lieutenant Quinton Markham said. Though some donations were still trickling in, the total looks to be down a bit from 2015, which brought in $108,000.
Still, Markham said, “We really, really appreciate the outpouring of support that this community shows to the Salvation Army and the Red Shield.”
