YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: Modesto Junior College Vice President Dr. J. Kenneth Rowland issued a clarification on the Selective Service regulations. Students that were enrolled in courses and were in good standing with the college would be issued a 1-SC deferment. The purpose of the provision was to give students the opportunity to finish their classes for the semester they were in, so they would not lose an entire semester’s worth of work if they happened to be inducted in the military.
