Modesto JC grads to walk on Friday
Modesto Junior College will hold its 94th commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday in the east campus stadium.
This year’s graduating class of 1,300 will receive 1,550 associate’s degrees, with some graduates getting multiple honors. Another 300 students have earned 400 certificates of achievement. About 600 graduates are expected to walk at Friday’s ceremony.
Addressing the Class of 2016 will be graduating student Alexandra Golikov presenting “From Apples to Almonds: Taking Root at MJC.” Golikov is graduating with an associate in arts degree for transfer in English and philosophy. During her time at MJC, she played cello in the string orchestra and worked as an English tutor and a supplemental instructor for English as a second language.
Professor Cherrie Llewellyn will sing the national anthem. Music by the MJC combined symphonic and concert bands, under the direction of professor Erik Maki, will highlight the ceremony.
The graduation program will feature the presentation of the 2016 MJC Distinguished Alumni Award to John Scheuber, MJC professor emeritus of agriculture (1968-1993) and businessman. Scheuber was president and CEO of Veterinary Service Inc. and remains on its board.
MJC graduates and their families and friends are invited to the graduation luncheon at noon Friday in the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Learning Center on west campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave. It will feature an address by graduate Andre Roundtree and presentation of the Honors Scholar Awards. Luncheon tickets, $12, must be purchased in advance in the Pirates’ Bookstore on east campus.
Modesto Junior College commencement will be at 6 p.m. Friday in the stadium on east campus, 435 College Ave. A reception for MJC graduates and guests will follow in the student center rotunda. For more, call the public information office at 209-575-6866.
