YESTERYEARS
40 YEARS AGO: Both the Modesto and Turlock irrigation districts adopted resolutions to authorize the filing of preliminary application for dams on the Tuolumne River and its tributaries. The paperwork would be filed with the Federal Power Commission. The total cost of the hydroelectric complex was estimated at $432 million, would have had a capacity of 400,000 kilowatts and generate an average of 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. However, the deal was contingent upon approval by both districts and the County of San Francisco.
