Authorities identify man killed in south Modesto crash

Authorities on Tuesday identified the driver killed in a crash on Crows Landing Road Monday afternoon as a 21-year-old Modesto man.

Kristian Valdovinos, 21, was killed when the car he was driving was struck by another vehicle as he pulled out of a south Modesto veterinary clinic.

Emergency crews were called to Crows Landing Road and Algen Avenue at about 5:30 p.m on a report that a sports utility vehicle had struck a red Honda sedan that was exiting the Crows Landing Road Veterinary Clinic.

When they arrived, they found Valdovinos pinned in the Honda. He was declared dead at the scene. A passenger in the Honda and the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee were taken to a nearby hospital.

Witnesses said the SUV was going along recklessly south on Crows Landing Road before smashing into the Honda, which was pulling out of the clinic, according to Heather Graves, spokeswoman for the Modesto Police Department. The Honda was pushed about 75 feet.

A pet dog inside the Honda was taken back to the vet clinic.
