Pennsylvania-based author and adventurer Cindy Ross will visit Modesto on Friday evening to give a presentation on the cycling trip she took with her husband and son along the 300-mile Muir Ramble Route that John Muir charted on his walk from San Francisco to Yosemite. Much of this route also follows the John Muir Geo-Tourism Highway.

Ross, author of six published books, also will speak on past travels. Her works include “A Woman’s Journey on the Appalachian Trail,” about her 2,100-mile hike; “Journey on the Crest: Walking 2,100 Miles from Mexico to Canada” on the Pacific Crest Trail; and “Scraping Heaven: A Family’s Journey Along the Continental Divide.”

Ross shares a message of the gifts and value of disconnecting from technology and immersing yourself in the wilds of nature, according to a news release from the Stanislaus Business Alliance, which is hosting the presentation.

She and her husband, Todd Gladfelter, have raised their children close to the natural world, and she is an advocate for the “No Child Left Inside” movement inspired by Rich Louv and his book, “Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder.”

Ross says her seventh book, “Modeling a Life,” is nearly finished and chronicles the couple’s alternative lifestyle of educating and raising their children.

The presentation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Kirk Lindsay Center of the alliance’s Small Business Development Center, 1020 10th St. Admission is free, but RSVPs are requested at 209-526-5588. Ross will have copies of her books for sale and will be signing them.
