Winners all around at Stanislaus County Special Olympics
A bevy of medals was handed out Saturday during the Special Olympics of Northern California Stanislaus Games.
Held at John F. Kennedy School in Ceres, the games became an annual county event in 1973 when then-teacher John Wray noticed that there were no recreational programs for the intellectually disabled. Today, Wray is area director of Special Olympics in Stanislaus County.
Among the events this year were a softball throw, 50-yard dashes, relay races, long jump and shot put.
