Brief storm drops by Modesto
A week after temperatures climbed to near 90, a spring storm moved into the Northern San Joaquin Valley.
Friday dawned with cloudy skies, spotty showers and gusty winds around Modesto.
The rain came in brief spurts and varied by location. By late afternoon, the Modesto Irrigation District had recorded only 0.05 of an inch of rain. But it was enough to prompt the cancellation of high school baseball and softball games in Turlock, Hughson, Atwater and Patterson.
In the higher elevations, snowfall tangled some traffic along Interstate 80 and Highway 50, where forecasters expected up to 4 inches.
The rain was expected to clear out by Saturday morning, leaving behind sunny skies and a more-normal high of 74 degrees. Sunday looks to be more of the same, with Monday a bit cooler and more rain possible by Wednesday.
