YESTERYEARS
100 YEARS AGO: The Modesto Gas Co. placed an ad for its product. In the ad, it stated why residents should use gas in their home. Gas is ideal for home fuel; economical, convenient and reliable; reduces the cost and amount of kitchen labor; ensures perfect sanitation; eliminates all baking failures; and is the only fuel that gives absolute assurance of dependable service. The minimum cost per month was 90 cents, and the company’s tagline was: “Owned, operated and controlled by the home people.”
