Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew, cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two? The Candy Man can, and so can Modesto Christian School performing arts students.

The school’s production of “Willy Wonka” opened at the Gallo Center for the Arts on Thursday and continues Friday and Saturday.

The play is in the Foster Family Theater, with showtimes at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday. For tickets, go to galloarts.org.

Based on the beloved Roald Dahl 1964 classic children’s novel, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” it tells the story of a sweet but very poor boy who gets his hands on the last of five coveted “golden tickets” hidden in Wonka Bars.

Charlie and his grandpa then get an inside look at the strangest chocolate factory in the world. The owner leads five young winners on a thrilling and often dangerous tour of his factory.
