What: Stanislaus County Veterans Advisory Commission meeting
When: Monday, 5:30 p.m.
Where: County Center III, 917 Oakdale Road
Info: The commission is looking for participation from interested veterans and family members who can attend its meetings. The purpose of the commission is to represent all veterans in Stanislaus County by advising the Board of Supervisors and staff on matters pertaining to them. Members of the public are welcome to attend and are encouraged to volunteer to serve on a strategic priority committee. For further information, call Joe Madden at 209-914-4764.
What: Colt Starting Challenge
When: Thursday, 6 to 9 p.m., and Friday, 6 to 10 p.m.
Where: MJC ACE Pavilion, 2201 Blue Gum Ave.
Info: Watch six experienced horse trainers compete to gentle and ride six unbroken horses in just a few hours by using natural methods. There will be educational booths and activities for kids as well. Proceeds will benefit the Modesto Junior College equine program. Tickets: General admission, $15; students and children 7-12, $5; children 6 and under, free. Parking is free.

YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that a cardiovascular symposium for doctors and dentists would be held at Hotel Covell in the Fable Room. The symposium, “The Identification of the Cardiac Risk Factor in the Practice of Medicine and Dentistry,” would be presented by the Central California Heart Association. The American Academy of General Practice co-sponsored the event, as well as accrediting its members. The event drew doctors and dentists from Stanislaus and surrounding counties.
