YESTERYEARS
40 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Modesto City Council had approved building a second full-service center for senior citizens. The council was to consider selling a third of the 5-acre, city-owned Lincoln School site at 7th and I streets for a high-rise apartment tower for seniors. A $100,000 offer had been submitted by William Rader, who helped build Ralston Tower at I street and Downey Avenue. However, Councilwoman Peggy Mensinger felt the offer was too low since the city had spent $500,000 for the entire parcel.
