What: Police Department “Town Hall Meeting”
When: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday
Where: St. Joseph’s Church, 1813 Oakdale Road
Info: The intent of the meetings is to foster an open dialogue regarding the priorities residents want to see from the Police Department and to give residents feedback on public safety. The public is encouraged to share concerns, suggestions and questions of the command staff. Information on strengthening neighborhoods and starting a Neighborhood Watch program also will be provided. Similar meetings will be held May 18 at the Modesto Covenant Church, 913 Floyd Ave., and May 26 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1732 Miller Ave.
What: Sons in Retirement meeting
When: Thursday, 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: The Elks, 645 Charity Way
Info: The Sons in Retirement, Branch 144, Luncheon will feature guest speaker Tom Changnon, Stanislaus County superintendent of schools. Sons in Retirement is a club for retired men who meet to renew friendships , discuss issues and plan participation in activities such as golf, bowling, pickleball, dining and traveling. What: Pancake Breakfast
When: Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Sylvan Improvement Club, 2545 Sylvan Ave.
Info: Sylvan Improvement Club is a 100-year old nonprofit group that supports various charities in Modesto and Stanislaus County (schools, food banks, and other nonprofits). Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children (6-12) and are available at the door.
SONORA
What: Central Sierra Audubon Society meeting
When: Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Where: Tuolumne County Library, 480 Greenley Road
Info: Pete Devine will portray Galen Clark, Yosemite National Park’s original ranger. He will share tales with park visitors of Yosemite’s early days and how the park’s protection by the state and federal government came about. The public is welcome to attend.

YESTERYEARS
25 YEARS AGO: The Orestimba High School baseball team avenged itself by defeating Mariposa County High School 1-0 in a Southern League matchup. The Warriors’ win came off of a 26-2 loss to LeGrand High School in the same week. Orestimba was led by pitcher Rick Teixeira, who threw a complete game, giving up just two walks and one hit. He improved his record 2-3 with a 3.86 ERA, while the Warriors improved to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in league.
