Stockton man drowns at Woodward Reservoir near Oakdale

A 19-year-old Stockton man drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming with friends at Woodward Reservoir near Oakdale, authorities said.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the reservoir about 4:50 p.m. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department dive team was en route when fire personnel found the body.

The drowning victim’s name was withheld as authorities tried to notify his family.

Sheriff’s Lt. Marc Nuno said the group of friends were swimming and drinking near Picnic Point, just south of the dam.
