Weather service warns of wind gusts in Modesto area Friday

There are some warm days ahead, but not before we get through a windy Friday.

The National Weather service reports that north winds will develop Friday behind a low pressure system over the Great Basin. The winds will diminish Friday night and remain generally light through the weekend. The weather service warns that winds Friday may cause downed limbs and local power failures.

The forecast for Modesto calls for a northwest wind of 27 to 32 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. The day will be sunny with a high near 74 degrees.

Friday night will bring a west-northwest wind of 19 to 29 mph, decreasing to 7 to 17 mph after midnight. Gusts could get as high as 38 mph.

By Saturday, winds will have dropped to just 3 to 7 mph. The sky will be sunny, and the high will be near 79.

Sunday is expected to be sunny and considerably warmer, with a high near 87. The high on Monday is predicted to near 89.

The daily highs then will begin to drop, to near 83 Tuesday, 81 Wednesday and 80 Thursday.
