YESTERYEARS

50 YEARS AGO: Yosemite Junior College District trustees heard that their plans for a second campus in the district received a passing grade. The campus would be in the hills of Tuolumne County, near Columbia. However, the federal Bureau of Land Management was holding up the fast-tracking of the new campus because it wanted to make sure the land would be used in the best interest of the public. The cost of the 160-acre proposed campus site, to be purchased from BLM, was $2.50 an acre.
