What: Pitch, hit and run competition

When: Saturday, check in from 9 to 11 a.m.

Where: Beyer Community Park, 3700 Beyer Park Drive

Info: Pitch Hit & Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball, designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills. Event is open to boys and girls from 7 to 14 years old. Registration is done in two steps: Present copy of birth certificate and complete 2016 Official Registration Form; and register in Modesto Parks and Recreation Class System, Class No. 61302.

RIVERBANK

What: Meeting of The Compassionate Friends of the Modesto-Riverbank Area

When: Monday, 7 p.m.

Where: 2201 Morrill Road

75 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the city of Waterford would be putting forth a $12,000 bond issue for the school district’s parents to vote on. The Waterford Grammar School trustees wanted to build two new classrooms, make repairs and purchase furnishings. The new classrooms would replace the auditorium, which had been used for classroom space for the past three years.
