Glinskas has attended each of the organization’s conferences over the past three decades. She’s also been a member of the Stanislaus County School Nurses Association, taking on numerous responsibilities including serving as its president. She’s been the lead nurse for Empire Union School District since 1986. She serves eight schools, some rural, and travels up to 500 miles per month. Glinskas has been an American Red Cross CPR instructor for 26 years.
Modestan to get national award from United Cerebral Palsy
Phillip Evans of Modesto will be honored by United Cerebral Palsy as the winner of its 2016 Life Without Limits award during the nonprofit organization’s national convention next week in Las Vegas. Evans, who works at Modesto’s Burnside Body Shop, has been involved with United Cerebral Palsy Stanislaus for five years, including three as a board member. The award is part of a national initiative to empower people with disabilities to “envision and built a better future for themselves, their communities and the world at large,” according to the national organization.
Soroptimist groups announce award winners
Angela Ponce, a sophomore at Grace Davis High School in Modesto, received the Violet Richardson Award from Soroptimist International of Modesto during a recent luncheon.
Ponce volunteers and recruits other students for Operation 9-2-99, which removes trash along the Tuolumne River. She plans to work with teachers to include blight removal as part of their curriculum. She received $1,000. The award is named for the woman who founded the organization in 1921 and recognizes girls ages 14 through 17.
Other scholarship winners included Valerie Moss, a senior at Beyer High who plans to attend UC Berkeley and major in psychology; Jacquelyne Adams, a Beyer High senior who wants to attend UC Davis or California State University at Long Beach or Sacramento to major in sociology; and Angel Krotov, an Enochs High senior who hopes to attend UCLA or UC Berkeley to major in biology.
And Soroptimist International of Oakdale recently handed out its Living Your Dream Awards, which help women who have faced economic and personal hardships improve their lives through additional education and skills training. The women must be the primary providers for themselves and their dependents.
Oakdale resident Elizabeth Greenlee-Harrison won the $1,000 first-place award. She attends Western Governors University and is pursuing a business degree. She also will be considered for regional Soroptimist awards. Waterford’s Tammy I. Regello took the $750 second-place honor. She is pursuing a degree in human services through the University of Phoenix.
