100 YEARS AGO: The week leading up to Easter Sunday in Modesto was called “Dress-up Week.” Several clothing shops in the city had sales on men’s and women’s clothing, including Priester’s and Schafer’s. At Priester’s, women’s suits were on sale for $14.95, regularly $20 to $25. At Schafer’s, the clothing sale included men’s and women’s clothing. Men’s clothcraft suits were $10 to $18.50 and Hirsch Wickwire suits $20 and $25. As for the women, there was an assortment of clothing, and the suits for the women were $12.50 to $32.50, for sizes 16 to 54.
