YESTERYEARS

75 YEARS AGO: The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted for an ordinance that was designed to curb black-eyed peas bean weevil infestations. Agricultural Commissioner Milo Schrock stated the ordinance enhanced one already on the books that calls for the beans to be fumigated when they reached the warehouse. The additional rules called for the beans to be fumigated in the dirt, farmers were not allowed to have bean screenings, all bean straw had to be destroyed, and all beans found with weevils had to be fumigated regardless of the season.
