R&B singer Ashanti to perform at Stanislaus County Fair
Ashanti, whose 2002 self-titled debut album hit No. 1 on both the Billboard Top 200 and R&B album charts, will perform at this summer’s Stanislaus County Fair.
The singer’s album included the single “Foolish,” which grabbed the top spot on six Billboard charts simultaneously – Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, The Billboard 200, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks, Hot 100 Airplay, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Hot 100.
“Foolish” stayed on the charts for 11 consecutive weeks.
Her debut disc won the 2003 Grammy Award for best contemporary R&B album, and she was nominated for best new artist. That year and in 2004, she also was nominated for six other Grammys.
Ashanti, whose hits include “Happy,” “Baby,” “Rock Wit U” and “Rain on Me,” also has had success as an actress. In her feature film debut, “Coach Carter,” she co-starred with Samuel L. Jackson. Other performances include turns in the movies “Resident Evil: Extinction” and “John Tucker Must Die” and the final season of the TV series “Army Wives” in 2013.
“Ashanti will put on a fantastic show,” fair spokeswoman Adrenna Alkhas said in a news release. “Her upbeat R&B/hip-hop tempo will have the audience mesmerized and dancing the night away.”
Her concert, hosted by 97.7 and 98.3 KWIN, is at 8:30 p.m. July 16 on the Bud Light Variety Free Stage and is free with the price of fair admission.
