YESTERYEARS
25 YEARS AGO: The Modesto Centre Plaza hosted the Coalition of California Car Clubs’ 11th annual benefit car show. The event had more than 60 stock and modified vehicles from all over California and adjoining states. The show’s highlight piece was the 1929 Ford roadster pickup once owned by the late singer Ritchie Valens, then owned by George Cantrell of Turlock. The car show was dedicated to Downey High School senior Mario Mendoza, a car enthusiast who died returning home from Hayward after attending a show there.
