Four hurt, including two children, in downtown Modesto accident

Four people, including two children, were taken to the hospital for treatment after a two-vehicle collision at Ninth and B streets in downtown Modesto on Monday morning.

The accident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. The victims’ injuries appeared to be minor to moderate, said Modesto Fire Department Battalion Chief Hugo Patino. The children are ages 1 and 3, said Modesto Police Department Sgt. Dan Shrader. Names and ages of the adults were not immediately available.

No extrication from the wreckage was required, Patino said, and he did not believe any victims lost consciousness. Mostly as a precaution, the adults were put in cervical-spine braces to immobilize them, he said.

The vehicles involved were a white GMC 2500HD pickup and a black Jeep Altitude. Witnesses said the GMC was southbound on Ninth and the Jeep was northbound, and the signal light had just turned yellow. The Jeep made a left turn into the path of the GMC, they told police.

The impact of the collision sent the GMC off the southwest side of Ninth and into the traffic-signal control box. By about 9:15, a four-way flashing signal was expected to be in effect, but full signals were expected to be out the remainder of the day, police said.

We’ll have more on the accident when information is available.
