YESTERYEARS
75 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Modesto Post No. 74 of the American Legion would be celebrating the national organization’s 22nd anniversary at Dania Hall, with a St. Patrick's Day theme. The commander of Post No. 74 was Dr. E.L. Gilson, who had called on those in attendance to announce their ancestry, with those claiming Irish heritage receiving gifts. The two visitors that cited their Irish heritage were Erwin Bean, superintendent of the Tuolumne Gold Dredging Co., a U.S. Marine who spent three years in Burma; and Lawrence W. Michener, past commander of the Stanley L. Collins Post No. 57 of Oakdale.
