YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: The Modesto Planning Commission approved a $302,000 capital improvement budget for parks and recreation in a special meeting on the city’s projected expenditures. The budget was submitted by the parks and recreation director, Mary Grogan, with two slight changes that included sidewalk construction at Ashby and Muir parks, totaling $5,000; and a hold of $90,000 that was allocated for the purchase of land and improvements at Downey Park, due to problems with acquiring the land.
