Lathrop man killed in crash on Highway 99 south of Ripon
A 53-year-old Lathrop man was killed Sunday night when he lost control of his vehicle on northbound Highway 99, left the road and hit a tree south of Hammett Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred about 9:50 p.m. in rainy, breezy conditions. The driver of a 1993 Chevrolet swerved his vehicle to the right, across the asphalt highway shoulder and onto the gravel shoulder, the CHP said. He was pronounced dead after striking the tree and apparently was not wearing his lap and shoulder seat belt.
The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family. It has not been determined if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
